DIRECTOR OF VISUAL MERCHANDISING | JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

SUMMARY 

At Magnolia, the Director of Visual Merchandising is responsible for the successful creating, planning, and implementation of visual merchandising across all Magnolia retail entities. This position works directly with team leadership to ensure the Magnolia brand aesthetic is upheld throughout all Magnolia locations. This position works from various locations in Waco, Texas. It reports to the Vice President of Retail and has supervisory responsibilities. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Provide oversight of financial details and realities of Magnolia’s businesses  
  • Work in a “forward thinking” mindset to constantly find ways to inspire, create, reinvent, and bring big ideas to life in a retail setting 
  • Manage a variety of projects throughout the year, including seasonal installs at all Magnolia retail entities, large-scale events, and product launches, while consistently staying within budgets* 
  • Partner with the Merchandising and Merchandise Planning teams to understand the inspiration and thought process behind upcoming product buys, and seamlessly translate that vision into the planning and implementation of merchandising guidelines* 
  • Provide development, inspiration, and direction to direct reports to support them in creating seasonal install packets, including the process of sourcing fixtures, antique pieces, and display elements as needed for seasonal installs 
  • Understand industry trends and proactively contribute new and fresh ideas that will improve the overall Magnolia experience 
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional teams to ensure the Magnolia aesthetic, product pairings, and seasonal storytelling is cohesive between online and retail entities* 
  • Implement all merchandising concepts and deliverables according to established company timelines 
  • Provide information and inspiration to cross-functional teams to ensure they are aware of the overall vision and inspiration for the current visual merchandising displays* 
  • Develop the annual visual merchandising budget, ensuring alignment with the overall strategy to achieve company goals, and ensuring adherence by the department 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Hard skills: Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator required. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Sketch-Up, and Google Suite preferred.  

 

ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university preferred 
  • 5+ years of related work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred 
  • 5+ years of managerial experience preferred 
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends, special events, holidays, and evenings 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and arms to reach, handle, feel; utilize fine motor dexterity of fingers; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
