Job Summary


The Electrical/Controls Engineer will work with the Engineering Team primarily to design, improve, and troubleshoot automated industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment, and will be responsible for producing associated technical documentation and managing the integration of electrical systems and components on the factory floor.

Electrical/Controls Engineer Requirements:

  • BSEE or related Bachelors Engineering degree, or Associates Engineering degree with equivalent experience
  • 5 years applicable experience in the design, manufacturer, installation, and field support of custom industrial / capital equipment
  • Solid PLC design and implementation experience
  • Direct experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell components and software. CompactLogix PLC, MicroLogix 1400 PLC, PanelView Plus HMI, PowerFlex Series Inverters, Kinetic Series Servos, RSLogix 5000 Software, RSLogix 500 Software, Factory Talk View Studio Software. Also Siemens PLC software; S7-200; S7-300
  • Experience working directly with the design, installation, and support of electrical and control systems
  • Proficient in current release of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Electrical Controls Engineer must have experience with development and maintenance of structured bills of material
  • Working knowledge of Codes and Standards (NEC, IEC, UL 508A, NFPA 70E,Category 3 Safety)
  • Experience with power distribution (120V, 230V, 480V, 3 phase systems and 120V, 24V DC Control Systems)
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Installation and Troubleshooting - Variable Frequency Drives
  • Installation and Troubleshooting of heat treating controls, power controls, and PID controls
  • Assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting electrical control circuits, motor control and safety control circuits

Electrical/Controls Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement project-specific industrial control systems; starting with proposal, specifications, and drawings
  • Coordinate with other Engineering resources on mechanical implementation of control systems
  • Develop, document and maintain accurate structured Engineering Bills of Materials and Electrical Schematics
  • Review standards and compliance requirements applicable to the electrical control systems, provide recommendations as required
  • Utilize a strong understanding of PLC programming, electrical and controls systems to design and repair electrical control systems in the plant
  • Provide guidance and participate in preventive and predictive maintenance of the electrical and control systems
  • Evaluate and analyze control processes to identify opportunities to increase value for the plant
  • Serve as lead in developing and implementing strategies for targeted equipment improvements, utilizing new and existing automation and control technologies for both short and long-term solutions
  • Assist the maintenance and management team in process improvements while demonstrating and driving a culture of continuous improvement
  • Interface with departments and outside electrical vendors to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Ensure plant equipment control systems are operating effectively and in compliance with safety regulations
  • Provide guidance for the safe installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical control systems, including components of machinery and equipment
