Position Summary:

Manages the operation of the housekeeping and laundry areas of the hotel to ensure product quality standards are met and that optimum service is provided to hotel guests according to hotel and company business objectives.

Essential Function:
Manages the operations of the housekeeping and laundry areas to ensure the achievement of departmental productivity objectives and service quality standards.

 

Establishes and maintains cost control systems for linen and cleaning supplies inventories; budgets, orders and receives supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels necessary for efficient operation of the hotel.

 

Develops and implements systems for inspecting and managing the quality of housekeeping and laundry services provided and to ensure timeliness and efficiency of services; oversees inspections of housekeeping/laundry activities to ensure procedures are followed according to standards.

 

Schedules staff and work according to productivity standards and forecasted occupancy.

 

Compiles and reports information on housekeeping activities and expenses; provides information to guest services on the status of guest rooms to ensure accurate and timely reporting on room availability.

 

Hires, trains, and provides career development for housekeeping staff; conducts performance evaluations and provides feedback for employees.

 

Develops the department’s annual budget; monitors and reports variances against plan; track labor costs and related expenses.

 

Follows up on maintenance repairs and coordinates with Maintenance department to ensure hotel service quality standards are met.

 

Serves as member of Management Team, MOD, (when required) and works with other management personnel to establish and implement hotel service standards to achieve maximum profitability and efficiency

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Hotel Department Heads: discuss and resolve housekeeping/laundry problems. Hotel Staff: communicate status of guest rooms; coordinate services; resolve problems. External: Hotel Guests: ensure guest satisfaction with housekeeping/laundry services; resolve problems. Vendors: ordering of supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and three years experience in a housekeeping function in a hotel or similar industry, to include one year in a supervisory capacity.

Certification: None

Skills:
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

 

Detail-oriented

Ability to motivate and direct others

Since managing a large group of employees is the major responsibility of this position, Housekeeping managers spend a significant portion of their workday listening and speaking. A little less than half of the time is spent in meetings with individuals or with groups, usually while sitting down. A little over half the time is spent moving about the property inspecting rooms, conversing with employees and overseeing the housekeeping operation. The person in this position spends a significant amount of time utilizing problem solving, counseling, reasoning, motivating, scheduling and training abilities. Reading and writing abilities are used occasionally in reviewing and compiling reports, developing systems as well as in other types of correspondence. Communications devices such as a telephone or a paper are used frequently for such functions as communicating with other departments in the hotel. Mathematical skills are used often, including basic math, profit/loss concepts, and percentages, conducting inventories and budgeting. Carrying and/or lifting approximately 50 pounds and pushing and/or pulling approximately 200 pounds occurs but not often
