Assistant Family Court Commissioner
Hourly Salary Range $26.18 - $63.68 Annual Salary Range 54,454 - 132,454

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Family Court Commissioner, to act as a judicial officer and conduct scheduled and unscheduled court hearings pursuant to statute.

Job Duties: Assist in judicial matters affecting the family courts. Conduct hearings in family and injunctions matters, review files and court records. Prepare paperwork, provide procedural advice to parties and attorneys, conduct legal research as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  A Law degree from an ABA accredited law school and member of Wisconsin Bar.  Candidates must also have a certificate of completion of 25 hours of mediation training.  (If not trained at the time of appointment, completion of training within six (6) months is a condition of employment.)

Experience:  Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the practice of family law.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Thorough knowledge of Wisconsin family law, judicial procedure and rules of evidence; ability to analyze and interpret legal documents.  The ability to push/pull and lift/carry up to 10lbs. The ability to negotiate and resolve disputes in a variety of situations and to effectively present in written and oral format. The ability to deal tactfully and effectively with attorneys, members of the public and representatives of governmental agencies.  Skilled and able to deal sensitively with people under emotional and economic stress. The ability to use word processing and other computer programs and to access the Internet for information.

NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
