Hourly Range: $27.66 to $32.20

The Housing Division has two Community Intervention Specialist opportunities available: MyHome & Housing Navigation. The Department of Health and Human Services Housing Division supports individuals with accessing and maintaining housing. We strive to provide Milwaukee County residents in need with a safety net, decent and safe affordable housing, and a connection to opportunities which improve their quality of life. We use available funding sources in the most equitable and efficient manner.

Job Summary:  Under direction of the Program Manager, the Community Intervention Specialists (CIS) maintains a case load of homeless and formerly homeless participants with targeted disabilities of severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders. This position will work to maintain participants housing stability, process annual paperwork to determine rent amounts, input participant information in YARDI and HMIS databases. The Community Intervention Specialist is also responsible of conducting Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections, act as a liaison between case management, landlords and tenants, as well as advocate on behalf of participants.

Job Duties:

• Coordinate caseload of program participants.
• Complete annual recert process. Determine eligibility by certifying program participants. Input participant information into databases.
• Attend all required meetings and trainings.  
• Travel up to 70% of work time within the community.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current resident of Wisconsin
• Current valid Wisconsin Driver's License and access to a reliable insured vehicle; both maintained throughout employment.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work or human services related field from an approved college or university is required.
• At least one (1) year of experience working directly with the homelessness population, in the housing field, or in a closely related Human Services field is required.
• Able and willing to travel within the community up to 70% of work time.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of housing programs and HUD regulations as they relate to homelessness and income guidelines; knowledge of available housing resources; knowledge of the permanent supportive housing model; ability to conduct clinical assessments to provide for proper discharge planning; ability to work with individuals with a wide range of needs.
