Park Maintenance Worker 2, In Charge – Various Locations

Full-time, Hourly

Hourly Range: $23.32 - $26.06/hr

Closing Date: 6/27/2024, or upon receipt of the first 50 application submissions.

 

Job Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a park unit to ensure quality facilities and amenities and a safe environment; preserve and enhance department assets; ensure quality service and product delivery.

 

Work Schedule: Must be flexible to workdays, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

 

Job Duties

 

  • Personnel Management - Participate in and recommend hiring of seasonal park operations staff & provide daily supervision including job assignments, performance appraisals, workforce development, and establishing priorities to ensure the success of the Park Unit and the Department's strategies.
  • Turf and Grounds Maintenance-Maintain Park green space to include, but not limited to, mowing, trimming, fertilization, aerification, seeding, weeding, planting, mulching, and irrigation. Athletic field and sport court maintenance.
  • Athletic Field and Sport Court Maintenance - Set up and maintain natural or synthetic baseball/softball fields, turf sport fields and hard surface play courts by industry practices to a standards level for competitive play.  Assist with special facilities such ice rinks, natural or rinks with chillers
  • Building and Amenity Maintenance - Maintain buildings and facilities such as pavilions, shelters, service yards, clubhouses, pool buildings, to include, but not limited to, general cleaning, rental set up, waxing, and stripping floors, graffiti removal, inspection, build and repair picnic tables.
  • Parkway, Path, and Parking Lot Maintenance-Maintain Park roadways, drives, parking lots, and pathways to include, but not limited to, cold patching, line striping, cleaning catch basins, snow removal, and salting.
  • Equipment Maintenance - Inspect and maintain all equipment and tools related to the performance of job duties.
  • Administration - Process purchase requests; inventory supplies; process work orders, assist with project management; maintain logs; ensure relevant safety codes and regulations are followed.
  • Special Assignments and Projects - Participate on special project teams and community outreach efforts.
  • Maintain and operate a variety of pools, mainly splash pads and wading pools.  Assist with deep-well pool preparations and maintenance with some operation when necessary.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education, Licenses/Certifications and Experiences

 

  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required and maintained throughout incumbency
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • One (1) year or more of experience in Grounds, Landscape, or Park Maintenance required.
  • Valid “Class B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment and maintained throughout incumbency
  • Possession of WDATCP Category 3.0 (Turf & Landscape) pesticide certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment
  • First Aid certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment
  • CPR certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment
  • Valid “Class A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred
  • Associate’s degree in Parks & Recreation, Horticulture, Agronomy or Turf Management preferred.
  • Previous work experience in a Lead, Supervisory or Management role preferred
