Engineer

Department: Department of Transportation – Transportation Services Division

Full-time, Hourly

Hourly Range: $31.00 - $46.59/hr

Closing Date: 7/4/2024, or upon receipt of the first 50 application submissions. 

 

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position will design and coordinate Transportation Services Division improvement projects from start to finish and perform such other duties as may be assigned. This position will also have a variety of duties and responsibilities for Highway, Traffic, Bridges and Construction that are assigned accordingly based on the needs of the Department.  

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Design PS & E development and coordination - Design, prepare and coordinate the development of complete plans, specifications and cost estimates for transportation improvement projects including roads, bridges, traffic signals and underground facilities.
  • Prepare design reports and contract documents - Prepare required design reports and contract bidding documents for transportation improvement projects related to roads, bridges, traffic signals and underground facilities.
  • Conduct transportation engineering evaluations/investigations - Conduct transportation engineering evaluations with recommendations through technical studies and investigations in response to complaints and requests from citizens, County Board members and other public and private agencies.
  • Adherence to Local, State, Federal rules regulations and compliance - Monitor application of pertinent local, state and federal environmental regulations regarding the design and construction of transportation improvement projects and ensure construction projects are completed in accordance with the design plans and specifications.
  • Project liaison activities and agency involvement - Organize and participate in project liaison activities with consultants, contractors, public officials, the public, cooperating agencies and other public jurisdictions and review/coordinate project design and construction schedules.
  • Address requests and concern from various entities - Investigate and respond to requests and concerns of elected officials, client departments, other municipal agencies and the general public.
  • Use of Equipment, Tools and Machinery – Operate fleet vehicles and specialized transportation related equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education, License/Certification and Experiences

 

  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
  • Valid WI Driver’s License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering specializing in Transportation required.
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets required.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D required.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 30lbs.
