Fleet Mechanic
Department: Community Reintegration Center
Full-time, Hourly
Hourly Range: $27.66 - $32.20/hr
Job Summary
The principal function of this position is to repair, setup, dismantle, and maintain all department owned vehicles and mechanical equipment.
Schedule: This position will work from 7am-3pm Monday-Friday, weekends as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Fleet Repair - Diagnose and repair county owned fleet vehicles and equipment. CRC fleet consists of 39 vehicles including cars, light trucks, 1 loader, and 2 Blue Bird passenger buses.
- Use Various Shop Equipment - Use floor hoists, diagnostic equipment and other shop equipment as needed for fleet repairs.
- Repair Parts Ordering - Order repair parts as needed to fix vehicles and equipment.
- Documentation Management - Complete and file paperwork related to repairs and maintenance per Fleet policy and procedures.
- Auction Preparation - Dismantle and prepare vehicles and equipment for auction.
- Keep Up to Date on Repair Manuals and Schematics - Review and interpret service repair manuals and electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Winter Operations – Responsible for setup, maintenance, and operation of all winter equipment.
- Ability to safely and properly operate: vehicles, heavy equipment, mowers, patrol trucks, forklifts, power tools, hand tools, diagnostic equipment and computers.
- Ability to carry, lift, push and pull up to 75 lbs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, License/Certification and Experiences
- Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required and must be maintained throughout employment
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalency required
- Three (3) years or more as a Mechanic with work experience on late model light/heavy vehicle and equipment diagnosis required
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required or must obtained within twelve (12) months after passing position’s probationary period
- Previous experience using diagnostic software and fleet work order systems required
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair problems with little to no supervision required
- Criminal background check required
Preferred Education, License/Certification and Experiences
- Associate degree or college certificate/diploma in a closely related field preferred
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred
- Fabrication or welding skills preferred
