Audit and Collections Manager

Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plans (MPI) is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to lead our Audit & Collections Department. This position will supervise and manage a team of 18 including payroll compliance auditors and collections staff.

The Department

The Audit and Collections Department conducts audits of employers and participants for employer-sponsored and employer funded benefit plans on behalf of various Industry Guilds and motion picture/television crafts.  Contributions for Participants are determined by collective bargaining agreements and are based on hours worked by those participants.  Those hours translate into eligibility for the MPI Health and Welfare Plan, as well as Pension Plan credits towards a Retirement Benefit.

 

The Ideal Candidate/Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, abilities and experiences, which includes but is not limited to:

  • A minimum of 5+ years of people management and supervisory experience; experience and ability to coach, develop and motivate staff.
  • Entertainment Industry knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and staff as well as outside Business Partners, law firms, Local Union Business agents and MPI’ Board of Directors
  • Experience and understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements and interpretation thereof
  • Familiarity with ERISA and DOL guidelines
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel, as well as Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent presentation skills
  • Prior entertainment industry trust fund experience preferred
  • BA or BS degree in Business Administration or related and/or equivalent experience
  • Current CA driver's license and clear DMV record, requires occasional local travel within the Los Angeles area
  • Excellent attendance and reliability, with the ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Strong ethics and integrity.
  • Self-motivated, team player, who takes initiative, yet is flexible and thrives in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills, diplomatic and experienced in handling delicate situations with respect and professionalism.

  • Able to prioritize work, follow it through to completion and positively respond to changing priorities.
  • Experience in system assessments and implementations.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage Department Staff:  Work with management to assess appropriate organizational structure and staffing level for the department.  Manage the department supervisors with respect to their day-to-day work and the supervisors’ teams.
  • Reviewing: Review payroll audits, legal referrals, participant & employer letters, committee minutes, settlement offers, annual audit plan, audit progress reports, job applicants, employer agreements and related items.
  • Preparation of: audit memos, the audit program, performance metrics, annual budgets, correspondence to employers, Board of Directors and Board Committees.
  • Reporting and Projects: Audit system assessment, authenticity program implementation, report on status of Payroll Audit programs.  Special projects as needed.
  • Other:  Presentation at Audit & Collections committee meetings, draft settlement agreements and liaise with Plan Counsels on same as well as other matters/audits needing legal referral.

 

The anticipated base salary for this position is $90,000-$115,000 annually. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held.
