Summary
Monitors and manages assigned Solid Waste routes to ensure safe and on-time route completion.  The Foreman is responsible for counseling, disciplinary action, and evaluating assigned employees. Prepares routine reports. Responds to customer service requests and concerns in the field.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors routes and drivers via automated fleet management and routing software
  • Maintains daily productivity logs and prepare weekly productivity reports
  • Coordinates with back-office staff to respond to customer requests and concerns regarding route services
  • Makes route adjustments as needed and notifies customers of changes to alleviate problem areas or concerns
  • Counsels’ employees on work-related issues and assists them with correcting job-skill deficiencies
  • Develops work plans and completes performance evaluation of assigned employees
  • Monitors time sheets and periodically check annual leave balances and usage to ensure compliance with related policies
  • Ensures daily vehicle maintenance checklists are completed via fleet management and routing software
  • Monitors preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment to ensure driver adheres to vehicle/equipment use guidelines
  • Conducts weekly tailgate safety meetings, investigates vehicle incidents, takes statements, gathers photos of accidents to prepares reports for accident review board
  • Coordinates with maintenance regarding new container sets, swaps, repairs and returns
  • Interviews and selects hires; assists with employee training in classroom setting and during field operations
  • Serves as a relief route collections driver as needed
  • Makes recommendations related to the department budget; makes purchases up to $1,000
  • Ensures employee compliance with established safety procedures and proper usage of safety equipment
  • Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of experience as a solid waste driver or related area
  • Two years of experience in a lead or foreman role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training completed in the area of management and/or leadership

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations  

  • Valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
