New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking an Environmental Engineer II. Under the direction and direct oversight of the Director of Environmental Services, oversee and/or assist in all aspects of compliance related to greenhouse gas reporting, air permitting, site remediation, recycling and NJDEP Community Right to Know requirements.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  • Utilize working knowledge of state and federal regulations related to site remediation, greenhouse gas reporting, recycling, air permitting, and NJDEP Community Right to Know.
  • Assist Business Development department with the management of certain aspects of their projects including, Renewable Natural Gas and Hydrogen ventures. Project work may include permitting, project plan development and aspects of project oversight in conjunction with Business Development and Energy Delivery Engineering.
  • Participate in public meetings and engages in regulatory discussions to help foster trust and improve the understanding/acceptance of NJNG projects.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities, adheres to project schedules and work plans to keep projects on time and within budget.
  • Track and maintain NJNG/NJR environmental permits and ensure compliance with permit conditions.
  • Make competent independent decisions related to the completion of work tasks and attempts to find innovative solutions to problems.
  • Accept and complete new assignments from the Director of Environmental Services to help meet department performance objectives, as needed.
  • Manage and directs the work of environmental consultants and contractors to maintain project schedules and goals.
  • Responsible for contract negotiation, contract administration, and understanding common construction practices.
  • Responsible for assisting with budget development, tracking costs, and cost projection analysis.
  • Observe permitting procedures and construction management practices.
  • May be assigned project management duties of our Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites.

 

Position Specifications:

 

  • A bachelor of science degree in chemistry, geology, or environmental engineering
  • A minimum of two to four years relevant experience involving aspects of regulatory compliance, site remediation, development and implementation of work plans, budget development, project management, sustainability initiatives and contractor oversight. 
  • The ability to work effectively within a team environment is critical.
  • Must have established project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work independently and make competent, well-supported decisions.
  • Proficiency in word processing and working with spreadsheets is a must.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail, especially when reviewing invoices, to ensure details are correct and requested payments are accurate/appropriate.
  • Ability to see the big picture, always looking around the corner to anticipate problems or hurdles.
  • Developing ability to layer outcomes/wins for the betterment of the company.
  • Considers sustainability in decision making.
  • Occasional Travel required to various sites and for training 10%.
