Maintenance Shop Assistant
Section 1 - Position Summary
This position performs routine maintenance work. Provides assistance to Technical Services Mechanics, Electricians, or Welders to repair buildings, machines and equipment. Individual is given specific instruction, and work is performed under direct supervision.
Section 2 - Major Responsibilities
1. Provides assistance for routine preventive maintenance and repair to existing buildings, machinery and equipment. Work may be performed on motors, pumps, vehicles, tractors, mowers, and plumbing.
2. Assists with mechanical, electrical, and welding work as assigned.
3. Will be assigned various related duties as necessary.
Section 3 - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Must have the ability to comprehend, carry out and administer written and oral instruction.
2. Must possess knowledge of mechanics, electrical applications, welding, hydraulics and pneumatic systems.
Section 4 - Education and Experience
1. Requires a valid Texas Driver's License.
2. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Section 5 - Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment
This position requires continuous physical exertion often of a strenuous nature. Lifts or pulls/pushes 50 pounds on a daily basis and up to 100 pounds on a weekly basis in order to repair and service pumps, motors and machinery while using various hand tools and equipment. Working conditions include exposure to weather, odor, noise, chemical hazards, gases and dust. Hand and power tools including drill press and lathe, welding equipment, emergency lighting equipment and safety equipment.
