Transfer Station Equipment Operator

Section 1 – Position Summary

 

This position operates heavy equipment to facilitate operation of the NTMWD Transfer Stations.  Responsible for the operation of equipment used to compact and convey solid waste into transfer trucks.  Occasionally will assist Scale Operators to check in commercial customers and Member City residents.  Works under general supervision.

 

Section 2 – Major Responsibilities

 

  1. Operates and monitors performance of construction type heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, skid steer, and equipment used to compact and transport solid waste with minimal supervision. 
  2. Directs waste-haulers to proper disposal area. 
  3. Monitors certain process operations as directed by supervisor. 
  4. Responsible for housekeeping in assigned units. 
  5. Responsible for observing safe work practices.
  6. Verify that delivered waste is in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
  7. Work may vary depending on task requirements but may include general site cleanup and maintenance.

 

Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

  1. Spatial discrimination; eye‑hand‑foot coordination; manual dexterity; ability to follow written and oral instructions; generally good physical condition.
  2. Requires sustained mental attention regarding correct equipment operation.
  3. Must possess general mechanical skills.
  4. Minimum of two years of experience in operation of construction type heavy equipment or, light equipment training such as is offered by vocational‑technical schools or privately operated, independent vocational school or equivalent experience. 
  5. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D and a valid Texas Driver’s License.

 

Section 4 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment

 

This position requires minimal physical exertion with daily lifting requirements up to 10 pounds.  Working conditions include exposure to weather and odor.  Subject to shift work.  Primary equipment used includes front loader, tamper, skid steer, and stationary hydraulic compactor.
