Construction Inspector I - Electrical

 

Section 1 – Position Summary

 

This position involves the continuous on-site inspection of municipal-type construction of new facilities for the NTMWD with the purpose of determining that such facilities are completed in accordance with the details of the plans and specifications. 

 

Section 2 – Major Responsibilities

 

  1. Inspects all phases of construction with emphasis on electrical, to verify conformance with plans, specifications and codes.
  2. Ensure materials and equipment installed conforms to approved submittals, specifications and codes.
  3. Verifies the placing of conduit, steel and concrete in duct banks.
  4. Requires the contractor to provide various tests such as wire testing, switchgear and equipment testing.
  5. Ensure the breaker and relay settings are set as required by specifications and the Short Circuit Study.
  6. informs the Senior Inspector when issues arise.
  7. Writes a daily report of all activities, weather conditions, work quantities, etc.
  8. Verifies the quantity of work accomplished on each monthly estimate.
  9. Available to the Contractor during all working hours for the purpose of resolving questions that may arise concerning the details of construction

 

Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

  1. Must demonstrate the ability to read and understand Electrical, Instrumentation and Control drawings
  2. Texas Journeymen Electrician license preferred
  3. Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email
  4. Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
  5. Must be able to perform mathematical calculations, scale distances from plans, and measure distances on the ground.
  6. Must be able to work constructively with contractors, franchise utility and municipal employees.

Section 4 – Education and Experience

  1. Requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  2. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  3. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.

 

Section 5 – Environmental Factors, Working Conditions and Equipment

 

Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor activities.  Outdoor activities may involve exposure to hot, cold, dusty, dirty, and/or noisy conditions.  Activities may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, carrying, dragging up to 100 pounds of equipment.  Equipment used includes level, steel tape, camera, and electrical equipment.  Work may vary depending on information requests.
