Lead Fleet Maintenance Equipment Technician

Section 1 – Position Summary

 

Under the direction of the Fleet Maintenance Shop Foreman, this position is primarily responsible for maintaining NTMWD passenger vehicles, over the road tractors and trailers, transfer station heavy equipment and various mechanical units. This position directs the activities and duties of assigned subordinates. This position will frequently be called on to oversee and direct maintenance repairs and serve as training instructor.

 

Section 2 – Major Responsibilities

 

  1. Maintains a program of repair and preventive maintenance for over the road vehicles and trailers, transfer station heavy equipment and machinery owned by the NTMWD.
  2. Analyzes mechanical problems and estimates job requirements.
  3. Documents and records needed data and information.
  4. Responsible for the safety of all employees under supervision.
  5. Orders and purchases needed parts and supplies.
  6. Assists in preparing division budget.
  7. Utilizes the Operations and Maintenance manuals, technical publications, and manufacture’s specifications for the process of maintaining and repairing NTMWD equipment, machines, and vehicles.
  8. Assist in the supervision of a group of employees, including training, scheduling, and evaluations.

 

Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

  1. Thorough knowledge of operation and repairs to mechanical equipment.
  2. Attention to details is essential.
  3. Must be able to perform formal and informal maintenance training as required.
  4. Must possess the ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment.
  5. Must possess the ability to use and interpret a computer diagnostic program for Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, and Paccar MX engines.
  6. Three years of experience in the field of maintenance, passenger vehicle repair and tractor trailer repair, including mechanical and heavy equipment operation, and two years supervisory experience.
  7. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License. 
  8. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

 

Section 4 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment

 

This position requires continuous physical exertion often of a strenuous nature. Lifts or pulls/pushes 50 pounds on a daily basis and up to 100 pounds on a weekly basis in order to repair and service pumps, motors, and machinery while using various hand tools and equipment. Hand and power tools including drill press and lathe, welding equipment, pickup trucks, emergency lighting equipment, safety equipment and crane.
