Heavy Equipment Technician I

This position performs skilled maintenance work in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of machinery such as backhoes, tractors, bulldozers, landfill compactors, articulated dump trucks, motor graders, tipper, etc.

 
Major Responsibilities
  1. Monitor and perform routine preventive maintenance and repair to existing machinery and equipment.  
  2. Performs work on such process equipment as backhoes, tractors, bulldozers, landfill compactors, articulated dump trucks, motor graders, tipper, etc.
  3. May be required to perform rough plumbing and welding.
  4. Perform additional mechanical duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  1. Must have the ability to read operation and maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints, and safety data sheets. 
  2. Must have the ability to comprehend, carry out, and administer written and oral instruction.
  3. Must possess minimum five years of experience with mechanics, plumbing, welding, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems. 
  4. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  5. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment
 
This position requires continuous physical exertion often of a strenuous nature.  Lifts or pulls/pushes 50 to 100 pounds on a daily basis in order to repair and service equipment while using various hand tools and equipment.  Working conditions include exposure to weather, odor, noise, gases and dust.  Hand and power tools including impact wrenches, drill press and lathe, welding equipment, pickup truck, service truck, emergency lighting equipment and safety equipment.
