Information Systems Assistant
**Pending Board Approval in September with a start date on/after October 1st.**
Section 1 – Position Summary
This position reports to the Water Asset Risk Manager and is a member of the Water Division. This position is responsible for populating, maintaining, and managing information in various formats including, but not limited to: water asset data, operations and maintenance reports, and geospatial (GIS) data. The person should have excellent organization, communication, and data management skills. This person must have an aptitude for learning database-driven administrative software.
Section 2 – Major Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain and distribute information from applications such as the Maximo Asset Management program.
- Perform quality control checks of GIS data to ensure data integrity.
- Read and interpret engineering plans, plats, legal descriptions, permits, GPS data, aerial imagery, etc. to verify the accuracy and completeness of data prior to input into GIS.
- Provide assistance and support to end users experiencing database and usability challenges.
- Achieve proficiency in use of and manage information in applications such as Maximo, ESRI GIS, and various SQL-based reporting packages.
- Suggest ways to improve information management, streamline processes, and increase the efficiency of knowledge management activities.
- Achieve and maintain general understanding of water treatment processes and compliance practices.
- Participate in team meetings and proactively provide input and suggestions.
- Maintain an understanding of NTMWD policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Enthusiastic, motivated self-starter; quick learner; ability to work well as an individual and as a team; good planning and organization skills to deal with fast-paced environment; very detailed orientated with good problem solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies in response to the evolution of GIS technology.
- Must be proficient using Microsoft word-processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
- Must be familiar with SQL databases and understand the importance of data integrity.
Section 4 – Education and Experience
- Requires a high school diploma or GED (an associate degree or administrative certification is preferred).
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Preferred experience using relational databases and data retrieval (SQL).
- Preferred experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS suite software, version 10.0 or higher.
Section 5 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment.
Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor. Outdoor activities may involve exposure to hot, cold, dusty, dirty, and/or noisy conditions. Activities require sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, climbing, kneeling. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. This person will be required to visit Water Treatment Facilities.
