Scale Operator

Section 1 – Position Summary

 

This position performs duties in the operation of the NTMWD Transfer Stations and is primarily responsible for operating the scale and checking in Member City residents.  Works under general supervision.

 

Section 2 – Major Responsibilities

 

  1. Responsible for weighing trucks to determine tonnage of solid waste.
  2. Responsible for observing trucks to ensure that solid waste is properly covered and acceptable for receipt at the Transfer Station.
  3. Responsible for verifying residence before disposal at Citizen Convenience Centers.
  4. Maintains records that include vehicle identification and vehicle information.
  5. Required to answer telephone and address questions posed by customers and Member City residents.
  6. Responsible for observing safe work practices.
  7. Communicates with drivers by radio and or telephone for assignment to transfer station based on work load.
  8. Performs general site cleanup as directed.
  9. Orders fuel and other supplies as directed
  10. Verify that delivered waste is in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.

 

Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

  1. Excellent public relations skills needed.
  2. Must be in good general physical condition.
  3. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  4. Spatial discrimination; eye‑hand‑foot coordination; manual dexterity.
  5. Requires basic computer skills.
  6. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  7. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.

 

Section 4 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment

 

This position requires minimum physical exertion with daily lifting requirements up to 10 pounds.  Significant finger dexterity required.  Working conditions include exposure to weather and odor.  Subject to shift work.  Activities may include picking up trash, carrying office materials, pulling and pushing file drawers and organizing paperwork.
