Information Technology Technician

Section 1 – Position Summary

 

Under the direct supervision of supervisor, this individual will provide technical support for all users of the NTMWD LAN system.  Maintain adequate knowledge of existing hardware and software in use to maximize efficiency of the network and resolve problems swiftly.  Assist users with support requests from an end-to-end perspective.

 

Section 2 – Major Responsibilities

 

  1. Provide computer/network support relating to software and hardware problems reported by users. This will include support for high-level executives, including Directors and their Deputies, as well as appointed Board members.
  2. Support monthly Board of Directors and Committee meetings, including A/V setup and management as well as individual system support.
  3. Maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating system and application software being used to provide high levels of support.
  4. In-depth troubleshooting ability, often in high pressure environments and with short time requirements.
  5. Install and troubleshoot new software applications and hardware on the LAN as directed by the Information Technology Supervisor.
  6. Assemble, configure and maintain client, server and related hardware.
  7. Add and maintain users on the network; assigning application access, and ensuring security. Ensure that user records are kept up-to-date in Active Directory.
  8. Participate in team meetings, providing input and suggestions.
  9. Gather bid prices on equipment and supplies as needed.
  10. Repair and replacement of network hardware as directed.
  11. Carry out other duties as may be assigned or requested.

 

Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

  1. General knowledge of IT-related equipment to include desktop and notebook PCs, LAN and WAN connectivity and topology, network and desktop printers, IP telephony, wiring and cabling, and A/V electronics.
  2. Ability to administer and configure badge security systems and video surveillance equipment.
  3. Requires record keeping abilities, excellent organizational skills and using independent judgment based on established procedures.
  4. Must be able to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
  5. Requires occasional shift work, including regularly-scheduled on call duties after hours and on weekends.
  6. Two years of experience with Microsoft Active Directory Networking.
  7. Two years of experience in either Ethernet networking or desktop PC support.
  8. Must be capable of obtaining VMware CVE, Microsoft MCP/MCSE and/or Cisco client / CCNA certifications.
  9. Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  10. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.

 

Section 4 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment

 

This position requires minimum physical exertion with daily lifting requirements up to 50 pounds.  Significant finger dexterity required.  Activities may include carrying office materials, pulling and pushing file drawers and organizing paperwork.  Duties are almost always carried out in an office environment.  Equipment used includes a Network Computer System and/or personal computer, various printers, calculators, copier and telephone.
