Oak Hill is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Assistant Teacher II (ATII) to assist with instructional support for students with Developmental and other Disabilities. The Paraprofessional Behavior at Oak Hill’s Hartford Classroom works 35 hours/week, Monday through Friday 8a-3p. This individual assists in the implementation of students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP), providing academic and vocational instruction and support for individual students inside and outside of the classroom. The Paraprofessional in this role focuses on behavioral aspect of students’ educational process that impacts their progress, quality of life, and self-direction.  

  

  

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Associates degree in education, child development or related field or enrolled in a higher education program that leads to a degree in education, child development or related field and at least 5 years of experience and completed required OHS curriculum within 3 months of hire. 
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • A Public Service license with a V endorsement is required during the initial employment period, and this is facilitated through Oak Hill. “V” endorsement is required for operation of a student transportation vehicle, transporting students to and from school, including vehicles transporting special education students. Applicants or holders of a public passenger endorsement must have an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities 

  • Assists the teacher in the implementation of behavioral intervention strategies and academic and/or vocational instruction to students individually or in small groups to implement student Individual Educational Plan. 
  • Creates and maintains a supportive learning environment and models appropriate behaviors to assist students in developing appropriate social skills. 
  • Safely assists students into and out of school transportation, transporting students to and from school as needed. 
  • Assists the teacher and clinical staff in planning of behavioral techniques and activities that are aligned with standards and Oak Hill School philosophies and practice. 
  • Assists the teacher with ongoing observation and assessment, records behavior patterns and assists in developing appropriate techniques to reinforce positive behaviors.
