ITP School    

Responsible to: Chief Officer, Education
 

Job Summary:
The Academic and Student Affairs Coordinator assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of Special Education procedures and programs consistent and compatible with New York State educational requirements for Special Education. The Academic and Student Affairs Coordinator is responsible for promoting the highest level of student achievement in accordance with each individual’s abilities. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.


Essential Job Duties:
1.    Leads, monitors, and supports ongoing teaching/instructional activities for teachers at Baker Academy and Baker Hall.  Provides feedback to Teachers through observation, evaluations, and direct supervision meetings. 

2.    Has current knowledge of NYS curriculum and standards. 

3.    Monitors Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) of students at Baker Hall and Baker Academy for quality and cohesiveness of information submitted by all service providers. Ensures all final drafts on IEP direct are complete and correct before being submitted to districts. 

4.    Develops policies, procedures and coordinates training to ensure teachers to uphold IEP provisions and written quality as reflected in reports and data tracking. Provides direct oversight of Annual Review process.

5.    Agency liaison with school districts regarding the admissions process at Baker Hall and Baker Academy, working to ensure new students are enrolled through an effective and timely intake process in order to maintain program census.

6.    Develops, coordinates, and monitors the program of instruction for academic programs and oversees updates of the curriculum. Reviews lesson plans for quality and alignment to NYS standards for all teachers at Baker Hall and Baker Academy. Assists in allocating Title Funds to support instruction. 

7.    Assists in the development of short- and long-range plans for the integration of technology into the instructional program. 

8.    Provides and promotes staff development for all employees assigned to the building on an ongoing basis.  

9.    Assists in the development and implementation of the Education Division Strategic Plan. Uses data to monitor progress and report outcomes as necessary. Coordinates student teacher placements with local universities

10.    Participates in hiring process to screen and interview potential candidates, working to ensure the program is staffing ratios are in accordance with IEP’s and NYSED compliance. 

11.    Performs other duties and assumes other leadership responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Education: 
Minimum Degree Required:  Master`s Degree in Special Education and School Administration certification. 

Experience Required:
6-9 years of teaching in a school age setting. Supervisory experience in an education setting is preferred.  


Required License/Registration/ Certification:
•    NYS Teaching Certification in Educational Leadership/Administration, must have one of the following:
o    SAS (School Administrator and Supervisor) or,
o    SDA (School District Administrator) or, 
o    SBL (School Building Leader) or,
o    SDL (School District Leader) or,
o    Eligibility for an Intern Certificate in one of the following areas above.  Professional certification must be received within 1 year from start date.

Physical Requirements: 
The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.
•    The constant physical demand of the position is sitting.
•    The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
