Position Summary

Reporting to the EH&S Director and collaborating with the Engineering Team and Management Teams, the Environmental Manager is responsible for leading our ESG and ISO 14001 initiatives and ensuring the organization complies with all environmental laws and regulations.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System)

  • The Environmental Manager (EM) will design and implement the Global Corporate ISO 14001 program ready for certification in 2025.  The EM will be directly responsible for the training of management system procedures and processes at all Canadian facilities.  The EM will also be responsible for company personnel training and ensure the certification of all Canadian facilities.  The EM will monitor the program and standard to ensure continued compliance and future certification renewal of ISO 14001.

ESG (Sustainability)

  • The EM will implement the new ESG Global platform in North America, liaising with our global entities for strategic alignment.  The EM must stay aware of global ESG trends, regulations / best practices and customer requirements and through the platform formulate actions to reduce the organization’s environmental impact and stay in compliance with the changing global ESG climate.  The EM will be responsible to conduct ESG assessments and analysis.  

 

  • The EM will be responsible for driving corporate change with respect to ISO 14001 and ESG requirements, internally and from customers.  Training programs will be constructed to Increase awareness top down, including C-suite personnel.  The EM will also be responsible for liaising with customers and suppliers to ensure we are meeting customer expectation and ensuring compliance with respect to ISO 14001 and ESG by the organization’s suppliers.

Compliance

  • The EM will develop facility level policies and procedures within the EMS to ensure compliance with Local, Provincial and Federal regulations and laws.  The EM will also be responsible for managing the collection and submission of data required to satisfy environmental permitting, approval and reporting requirements.  The EM will liaise with various levels of government and third-party consultants to ensure compliance with the aforementioned items.

  • The EM will be responsible for ensuring that permitting, internal and external environmental requirements are being met or exceeded at all Canadian company locations.

Other Duties

  • It is expected that the EM will join local and provincial environmental interest groups, representing the company with neighbours, customers, suppliers, industry associations and regulators.

  • The EM will construct dashboards and KPIs to track the company’s environmental and sustainability performance, supplying the information to stakeholders within and outside the company.

Safety

  • As an integral member of the EHS department, the EM will also be responsible for building the corporate ISO 45001 (Safety Management System), which will be integrated into the ISO 14001 system.  The EM will also have responsibility in the certification and maintenance of the ISO 45001 system.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably chemical or environmental.
  • 3-5 years’ relevant experience.

Travel Required: Must have a valid driver’s license, passport and be able to travel to the USA.  The majority of travel will be within Canada – approximately 30%.
