We are seeking resumes for an Sr. Human Resources Specialist / Generalist (1 Opening) in our Wallula, WA facility.
Description of role:
The Sr. Human Resource Specialist/Generalist is responsible for union labor relations, employee relations, and the recruitment function for hourly positions within the Mill, under the direction and support of the Mill HR Manager.
Principle Accountabilities:
Oversee and manage the hiring process at the Mill for hourly open positions. This includes understanding the needs of the hiring manager, creating and posting the position, managing the applicant flow log, interviewing, aptitude testing, assisting the hiring manager with selecting the best qualified candidate, preparing and extending the offer, completing the Applicant File Folder and handling the on-boarding process of the new hire.
Serve as the primary HR contact for any communication and relationship issues between the union and management, hourly and salaried, operators and managers, etc. Coordinate all hourly employee relation issues and work with management and the employee on a swift and appropriate outcome.
Counsel employees concerning work-related problems and providing managers with suggestions and strong recommendations to address personnel issues.
Counsel both hourly and salaried employees with issues/concerns related to health and welfare benefits. Enlist the assistance of the Corporate Benefits staff when needed.
Counsel hourly employees with issues/concerns related to their pay. Enlist the assistance of the Corporate Payroll staff when needed.
Administer the hourly absenteeism policy and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions.
Manage all grievance responses, up to and including settlement of the grievance. Responsible for organizing grievance files, assisting in preparation and presentation of arbitration.
Play a critical role with the Mill HR Manager, Mill management and corporate Labor Relations team in planning and developing labor contract negotiations for the Mill.
Act as a resource when necessary for fair interpretation of contract language, Mill rules and regulations.
Know and follow policies and procedures of the company, shares information that would benefit other members of the team and find ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers.

Basic Qualifications:
Education equivalent to a bachelor’s degree required.
Six (6) years previous work experience in a related capacity, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of labor relations, contract administration, hourly recruiting, employee orientation, and training on human resource matters.
A minimum of two (2) years previous work experience in a manufacturing facility.
Must be able to travel on an occasional basis.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communications, or Business preferred.
Master’s degree in Labor Relations.
PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification.
The successful candidate must possess the following Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Solid understanding of all current federal and state laws and regulations relating to employment.
Demonstrable experience delivering classroom training.
Strong working knowledge of PC applications including an understanding of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with multiple audiences throughout the company on procedures, policies, and requests for information.
Strong appreciation for the retention and management of confidential information.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple requests simultaneously.
Strong listening, evaluating, and problem-solving skills. Ability to create alternative solutions and meet deadlines.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests.
Previous experience working in a team environment preferred, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing among co-workers.
Pay and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is from $83,200 to $124,800.
Employees (and their dependents) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, basic life, and disability insurance coverage, subject to applicable waiting periods. Employees are automatically enrolled in PCA’s 401k retirement plan at the time of hire. Employees are also eligible for up to 120 hours of vacation (prorated) and eleven (11) paid holidays per calendar year.
