Executive Administration - VP of Sales & Marketing

The primary responsibility of a vice president of sales & marketing to is to lead and direct the regional sales department and marketing teams.  VP of Sales & marketing should drive to exceed sales revenue, sales profitability and budgetary objectives. VP of Sales & Marketing is responsible for analyzing trends, setting price and promoting the company brand. Strong communication as the company’s customer service spokesperson is a vital part of this role. Experience in strategic planning and execution. Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management. Knowledge of structuring sales quota goals and revenue expectations. Experience in planning marketing strategies, advertising campaigns, and successful public relations efforts. The role involves strategic planning, managing people, selling, leveraging technology and improving processes. Vice president of sales & marketing is a key member of the senior management team.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Strategy and Measurements creates and executes the sales department go-to-market and operational strategies to achieve business objectives. Participates with other senior managers in developing strategy for the entire company. Determines and monitors the department's key performance indicators (KPIs) such as revenue vs. plan, contact rate, quote closure rate and gross profit percentage. Anticipates and reacts quickly to trends and changes in performance. Develops and manages sales department budgets. Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of sales and marketing, methods, costs, and results
  2. Leadership: Directs and manages sales & marketing department employees. Hires, supervises, develops and mentors Regional Sales Leaders. Indirectly supervises regional sales teams and sales representatives. Manages employee performance management programs. Participates in corporate succession planning activities, writes and delivers employee reviews, keeps close tabs on employee morale and creates a positive working environment
  3. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Should be confident, organized, professional and creative, as well as an adept problem-solver. Comfortable working alone and delegating and must understand how to motivate staff and work through the sales and marketing team to meet goals.
  4. Selling: assists with complex sales negotiations, attends sales presentations and helps close sales deals. Directly manages very large, high-profile customer accounts, as appropriate. Helps develop sales proposals and responses to request for proposals. Develops and oversees a sales training program for new and existing employees. The VP of sales & marketing ensures sales employees are equipped with the product, system and selling-skills training that they require to be successful. Leads marketing to develop lead generation and revenue generation programs, and to create high performing sales collateral.
  5. Technology & Continuous Improvement: continually improves the effectiveness of the sales and marketing organization and enhances productivity, efficiency and customer satisfaction. Oversees and drives adoption of sales technology including customer relationship management (CRM) and a sales intranet. Partners with information technology leaders to identify and implement new technology and improve existing technology based on business needs. Develops, documents and enforces sales policies, standard operating procedures and best practices. Streamlines sales processes.

The output of the VP of Sales & Marketing will be linked to the corporate goals of Revenue Expansion and EBITDA enhancement but will also include the ability to connect with the sales team, customers, executive team, and full understanding of the business.  Success in the role will be measured in part to these metrics as well as individual behaviors including Depth of Thought, Ability to Drive for Results, Ability to work with and through others (People), and Self Knowledge, understanding personal strengths and weaknesses.

This job operates in a professional office environment and most of the role consists of traveling in a vehicle visiting customers and training with sales teams. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree required, Engineering, Technical, Marketing or Business. MBA preferred
  2. Individual must have 10-15 years of Sales Leadership Experience, with 4 years in a selling role and 2 years working with sales technology.  Successful candidates must have had 2 years of experience in a senior leadership role working with C-level executives.
  3. Must demonstrate outstanding leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess expertise in selling strategies and methodologies, strategic planning and execution
  4. Strong communication and negotiation skills, and the flexibility to adapt those to different levels, will be key.  The VP of Sales & marketing must be able to be viewed as an expert resource and partner by the customer, a leader by their team, and a collaborator by the internal office staff. Must be able to motivate the team to success.   
  5. Influencing skills are needed to gain support from functional areas.
  6. A strategic business mindset is important. Developing plans for the long term is essential for success.  Data-driven analysis will be needed to determine which customers and strategies have the greatest return for the business. Requires ability to understand business financials, market segmentation, customer requirements, and ongoing trends affecting the business.
  7. Must have a valid US Drivers’ License and acceptable driving record.
