Position Purpose:

This position will serve as the regional program facilitator for the Achievers Program at the Branch level in conjunction with designated Branch staff.  The Achievers Program is a college and career readiness program focused on preparing participants for life after high school and includes civic engagement program offerings.  This individual will provide teen members with programming, resources, and leadership opportunities at the designated (multiple) branches.  The position will implement curriculum, provide supervision, and serve as a liaison between the Branches and the Achievers Program Director and Achievers Steering Committee (as necessary).  This position may also work with and serve as an advisor for the Youth and Government program.  This position is responsible for recruiting participants and recruiting members to serve as volunteers for program delivery.  This position must ensure safety and adherence to all YMCA safety standards and rules.  This position is ideal for those who want to use their creativity, passion, and enthusiasm with a particular focus on teen engagement.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct Achievers program implementation of Achievers, including curriculums and guidelines for Model United Nations and Youth & Government as necessary.
  • Ensure quality program delivery and effective use of resources including staff, volunteers and equipment within an established budget.
  • Provide a safe environment that allows participants to learn YMCA programs.
  • Encourage and support staff volunteers to provide programming.
  • Reinforce the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through example and recognition of participant displays of character.
  • Support Achievers Program Director and Branch leadership with registration information, attendance, and other functions.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required while also providing support or leadership to Operations staff on teen-related topics and issues.
  • Assist the Achievers Program Director with the recruitment of participants and building relationships with local schools, businesses and organizations that will increase student participation.
  • Assist the Achievers Program Director in recruiting, training, and developing Branch staff and volunteers to assist with teen programming and services.
  • Oversee the safety and location of all teens in programming both at the Branch and off-site during field trips and/or industry tours and college visits.
  • Maintain sensitivity and patience with teens while also always maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maintain and monitor enrollment and participation in programs to ensure recruitment and engagement goals are met through daily and weekly roster updates, status of registrations, and weekly statistics.
  • Meet the standards of implementation of activities that foster creativity, leadership competency building, and service learning.
  • Assist in facilitation of YMCA Civic Engagement Conferences, Teen Summits, College Tours, Service-Learning Projects, and other community events.
  • Participate in Branch Team meetings or huddles and report out on teen attendance, events, concerns, and communicate with branch staff for collaboration that results in quality programming for teens including successes and shortcomings and develop plans to address identified needs.
  • Create a designated space or time for teens to socialize, engage and exchange ideas with each other.

Role Specific Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience and at least 1-2 years of experience in working with youth ages 13-19.
  • Experience in staff supervision, committees and in providing leadership to groups.
  • Proven success in managing teen programs.
  • Ability to operate a PC, use spreadsheets, word processing, email and related software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to recruit and motivate staff.
  • Desire and ability to learn tasks assigned.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and organizational skills; possess a passion for member service, building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence.
  • Travel required.
