POSITION PURPOSE

The Achievers & Teen Program Coordinator will serve as the program operator for teen programs at the Branch level. This individual will provide teen members with programming, resources, and leadership opportunities at the designated Branch. The coordinator will implement curriculum, provide supervision, and serve as liaison between the Branch and the Sr Teen Director.  The Achievers & Teen Coordinator will also work with and provide the appropriate level of assistance or leadership to students in the 7th Grade Membership Program as well as serve as Advisor for Youth and Government and Achievers.  The coordinator must ensure safety and ensure program sites meet the adherences of all YMCA safety standards and rules. The Achievers & Teen Coordinator position is for those who want to use their creativity, passion, and enthusiasm for teen work.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct Teen Leadership programs of Achievers, Youth & Government, and Model UN in accordance with YMCA program standards.
  • Provide a safe environment that allows participants to learn YMCA programs.
  • Encourage and support staff volunteers to provide programming. 
  • Reinforce the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through example and recognition of participant displays of character.
  • Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Maintains communication with participants and engaged parents.
  • Support the Regional Teen Leader and Sports Camp Leader with registration information, attendance, and other functions.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required while also providing support or leadership to Operations staff on teen related topics and issues.
  • Assist with the recruitment of participants and building relationships with local schools or organizations that will increase student participation.
  • Oversee the safety and location of all the teens in programming both at the Branch or Off-Site.
  • Maintain sensitivity and patience with teens while also always maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maintain and monitor enrollment and participation in programs to ensure recruitment and engagement goals are met.
  • Meet the standards of implementation of activities that foster creativity, leadership competency building, and service learning.
  • Serve as Advisor for YMCA Civic Engagement Conferences, Teen Summits, College Tours, Service-Learning Projects, and other community events.
  • Work with the Branch Sports and Camp Leader and their leaderships teams to coordinate service delivery of other teen programming or special events as needed or in response to teen demand.
  • Participate in Branch Team meetings or huddles and report out on teen attendance, events, concerns, and also seek opportunities for inter-departmental collaboration that results in quality programming for Teens.
  • Create a designated space or time for teens to socialize, engage, and exchange ideas with each other.
  • Available to work nights and weekends.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • HS Diploma or equivalent work experience and at least 1-2 years of experience in working with youth ages 13-19. 
  • Desire and ability to learn tasks as assigned.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and organizational skills; possess a passion for member service, building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence.
