Project Specific Safety Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Safety Intern will be responsible for handling day-to-day tasks on a project designated by the Safety Department. Additional tasks will be assigned by the Safety Department, including supporting strategic safety initiatives and completing any assignments required as part of the internship program. This individual will report to the assigned member of the Safety Department. The ideal candidate will be well-organized, detail-oriented, self-directed, interact with project-based teams and have an understanding of construction-related practices and policies. Preferably, the individual will be striving for a career in construction safety, risk management, or a related field.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Implement on-site safety program responsibilities and duties;
  • Assist in developing, revising and conducting employee/subcontractor safety trainings;
  • Participate in project team and contractor daily huddles, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Identify, report and assist in resolution of safety violations, unsafe behaviors and non-compliant conditions;
  • Generate, format, evaluate, and distribute safety reports as directed by the project's safety supervisor;
  • Relay safety-related communication and provide support to required parties (i.e. project team);
  • Site safety documentation content review and management as required;
  • Assist in evaluation of company and contractor safety performance and selection;
  • Program and document development and revision as required;
  • Provide CCIP support as required;
  • Additional assignments per Supervisor’s direction.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Working to complete a Safety and Health Degree from an accredited program;
  • Passion for safety, construction, and injury/accident prevention;
  • Strong organization, communication and prioritization skills;
  • Self-starter with the ability to problem-solve & support project teams;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications; Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, capture and organize videos and photos, etc.;
  • Vehicle to travel in and around Chicago and its suburbs.
