Progressive Companies has a practice-led, client leadership focus that consistently delivers on its brand promise, purpose, and values. The Director of Marketing and Communication is responsible for developing a clear and coordinated approach to strategy, structure, and maintenance of Progressive Companies’ marketing functions. This position directs and manages the activities of the team to support the work, to identify and develop business opportunities, to pursue leads, win new clients, and support and leverage existing client relationships.  This role connects Progressive Companies’ expertise with outside resources and opportunities, manages technology resources, and is integral to maintaining the tone and voice of Progressive Companies through communication, materials, and process.

 

This position works primarily in the office with some hybrid flexibility. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance to one of our 3 office locations: Grand Rapids, MI, Detroit, MI or Charlotte, NC.

Deliver Results

  • Work across the firm to develop and cultivate client relationships, monitor key markets and emerging trends, to support practice and firm goals.
  • Direct the project-specific marketing efforts within the office, including preparation of proposals that are tailored to meet the specific needs of each client.
  • Collaborate with and support Practice Leadership for business development strategic planning, goal setting, and key initiatives for defined markets across geographic areas.
  • Partner and consult with project teams, departments, and leaders to develop strategies, plans, and messaging that support established objectives.
  • Ensure a consistent application of the organization’s brand messages across all communication vehicles, including performance based, sustainable and inclusive design initiatives.
  • Ensure website, marketing materials, advertising, public relations, communications, and corporate stewardship activities are supported and consistent with business development activities.
  • Create, manage, coordinate, and execute long-term strategic communication plans that promote, enhance and protect the organization’s brand and reputation.
  • Develop and oversee external communication plans and pieces, including written publications, video scripts, blogs and other pieces as required. Create compelling storytelling and effective visual communication.
  • Engage with firm vision, develop, and implement new and creative channels and content that supports engagement strategies, company strategies and corporate objectives.
  • Responsible for creating and managing department and project budgets.
  • Engage Marketing & Communications team members through feedback, coaching, and mentoring to provide learning, training, support, and encouragement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, or Communications.
  • 12+ years of professional services marketing experience, preferably in the A/E/C industry with AEC industry knowledge, including an understanding of our market, competitive landscape, and industry trends.
  • 3+ years of management experience with a proven track-record of growing and mentoring staff. 
  • Able to travel to other offices and/or client project locations as needed. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in related field.
  • Experience working in a national, multi-office environment.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Deltek Vision.
  • Experience partnering with colleagues and senior professionals in a matrix organization.
