The SHRM Foundation is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the world's largest HR professional society, SHRM. The SHRM Foundation mobilizes resources, partnerships, and evidence-based programming to educate and empower HR professionals to hire diverse talent, build inclusive workplaces, and help employees find purpose at work and beyond. That work is pursued in three main pools of work: (1) broadening access to work for all, including particularly untapped pools of talent such as people with disabilities, justice-impacted individuals, and military veterans and their families; (2) expanding and diversifying the HR field, including through the distribution of scholarships, grants, and awards; and (3) tackling societal challenges that are affecting or will affect the HR field, with a particular current focus on health and well-being.

SUMMARY

The Manager, Foundation Relations is a key member of the SHRM Foundation. The Manager will be responsible for overseeing institutional fundraising from private and corporate foundation sources and securing grants for the organization. Under the direction of the Engagement and Philanthropy Director, key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the entire grant proposal process, from research and writing to submission and reporting, specifically targeting large private and corporate foundations.
  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities from large corporate foundations and other funding sources aligned with the mission and vision of the SHRM Foundation. 
  • Prepare all necessary documentation required by grant applications, including budgets, project plans, and supporting materials while keeping a calendar of grant deadlines and ensuring timely submission of proposals.
  • Write compelling, concise, and tailored grant proposals that effectively communicate our mission, goals, and the impact of our programs.
  • Manage, maintain, and develop the pipeline of foundation prospects and manage convenings from a stewardship and prospecting lens.
  • Stay updated on trends and best practices in grant writing and funding opportunities within the non-profit sector.

Experience, Skills & Abilities

  • 0ver eight (8) years of sophisticated, seasoned experience in nonprofit fundraising with foundations and corporations
  • Experience with powerful networks such as SHRM’s ecosystem; strong critical thinking skills around the correlation of nonprofit impact initiatives
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write well-structured, articulate and persuasive proposals and reports
  • Strong interest in SHRM Foundation’s programmatic mission and commitment to furthering its work
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple assignments, manage budgets and meet deadlines
  • Comprehensive knowledge of gift processing acknowledgment and stewardship practices.
  • Proficient in Salesforce or comparable donor database

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.
  • Travel is expected 30-50% of the time.

The hiring range for this position is $108,000 to $130,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
