Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Marketing: Fan Development & Sponsor Engagement will lead departmental efforts for fan experience initiatives for the Sacred Heart athletic programs. This person will be a main driver in giving our customers a one-of-a-kind experience at the Martire Family Arena and a secondary contact for Campus Field and the newly renovated William H. Pitt Center. This position works cross-functionally and reports to the Associate Director of Marketing for Athletics with a focus on coordinating and executing marketing plans for men’s & women’s ice hockey, football, and men’s & women’s basketball, which are designed to meet the department’s goals for revenue and attendance.

The Assistant Director of Marketing: Fan Development & Sponsor Engagement position focuses on three primary objectives:

  • Enhancing SHU’s athletics fan base and experience
  • Run of show at events
  • Activating sponsor activities
  • Serving as the primary day-to-day contact with sponsorship agency

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Primary marketing contact for ice hockey, including planning and executing event presentation activities such as writing game scripts and timelines, managing sponsor inventory, and supervising game day staff. 
  • Secondary marketing contact for football and basketball programs, including planning and executing primary contact’s game scripts and timelines while managing game day staff and sponsor initiatives
  • Collaborate and ideate with other External team members to create unforgettable moments for our fans at Martire Family Arena, Campus Field, and Pitt Center.
  • Work closely with our In-Venue Team to create and execute all script elements of assigned sports to continually enhance the fan experience at Sacred Heart Athletics.
  • Assists with the execution of social/digital media campaigns that will heighten the program’s brand and increase awareness and ticket sales.
  • Oversee student intern and work studies on game day in addition to overseeing assignments for game presentation, fan experience, and community and campus engagement. 
  • Oversee and run of show for hockey and football games, including sponsor activations, front of house run of show, while working with vendors on site for game days.
  • Primary contact for sponsors, working with them on initiatives, activations, and contract fulfillment
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes

  • A master's or bachelor’s degree with related experience in marketing or a similar field is required. Collegiate or professional athletics is a plus.
  • A passion for telling the story of university students and student-athletes.
  • A “no task too small or big” mentality.
  • Significant experience working in a marketing and promotions atmosphere.
  • Experience developing written marketing and promotions plans and coordinating special events.
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and similar computer programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
