SHU Community Theatre - Production Manager
Position Summary
The Production Manager oversees the logistics of the different teams working on the production or the concert to ensure that the theater events are successfully executed. The Production Manager creates the event schedule and day sheets for each event and advances each event. The Production Manager will support every aspect of stage management. Candidates should be able to handle a great deal of detail in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility, creative thinking, problem-solving, technical knowledge, the ability to work well with others, and communication skills are required. The position is based at the Sacred Heart University Community Theatre.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Advances all show details, such as equipment, schedule, and logistics, with the coordinating entity for each show and connects them to the hospitality and box office management.
- Creates and disseminates the above information into a day sheet style database for each event.
- Develop and foster relationships with artists, tour crew, artist management, other venues, and important personnel to ensure streamlined communication and successful execution of each show
- Works closely with the Technical Director to ensure that all technical and personnel needs are being addressed and met.
- Manages and coordinates a reliable show-day communication system with all departments.
- Manages and coordinates operations such as load in and load out for shows from artists, vendors, and all that apply
- Calls the shows in coordination with all departments, including arrival, sound check, doors, start of show, intermission, and end of show.
- Works alongside the Technical Director and other tech personnel in operating equipment associated with productions, such as lighting, audio, video, and computer systems when needed.
- Responsible for solving any production issues that may arise at any given point in the show timeline
- Supporting rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances by creating and disseminating detailed notes, helping to ensure the success of each show from both technical and artistic standpoints.
- Manages and coordinates any ongoing stage maintenance including painting, sanding, repair, etc..
- General support of theatre operations as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes
- At least 3-5 years of prior experience
- Technical theatre production and knowledge of various aspects of producing an event or production in both the educational and professional arenas.
- Understanding of stage management procedures and production crew operations.
- Passion for the arts
- Proven track record of stage management and event production.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in oral and written forms.
- Highly organized, flexible, collaborative, motivated, and a fast learner
- Ability to create production timelines
- Operation of a computer and assigned software.
- Ability to lead crew and technical staff.
- Ability to work independently
- Meet schedules and deadlines.
- Managing relationships with technical vendors.
Unusual Working Conditions
This position will require evening and weekend work hours.
