Position Summary

The primary function of the Assistant Women’s Hockey Coach is to assist the Head Coach in every facet of the operation of the women’s NCAA Division 1 hockey program consistent with the policies of Sacred Heart University, the NCAA, and the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance.

This position includes contributing to the overall student-athlete experience of each player in every aspect of their daily on and off-ice student-athlete life.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in the continuing development of a successful NCAA Division 1 women’s hockey program, which includes providing a positive environment conducive to the personal growth and development of the student-athletes as each strives for excellence on the ice, in the classroom, and in the community.
  • Assist in the scouting and recruitment of Division 1 caliber student-athletes who demonstrate academic proficiency, athletic excellence, and outstanding character. This includes on and off-campus NCAA contact and evaluations, video evaluation, phone and electronic correspondence, and meetings with prospective student-athletes and their parents, guardians, and coaches.
  • Assist in the coordination of unofficial visits, and Official visits to the campus, including travel arrangements, setting itineraries, procuring student-athlete hosts, housing, meals, campus tours, game tickets, and academic appointments.
  • Completing and maintaining recruiting records as required by the NCAA.
  • Assists in the development and strategic organization, planning, and implementation of daily practices, including player positional (Offensive-Defensive- Goaltender) skill development.
  •  Assists in the development, strategic planning, and implementation of game plans and strategies as used in practice with pre-scouting of opponents using video breakdown in a team video meeting setting and individual film review with student-athletes.
  •  In game play video analysis using Playsite, INSTAT, HUDL and other video platforms controlled in game press box setting.
  • Coordinates, promotes, and monitors excellence in academic progress for all student-athletes regarding their class attendance, meeting their study hall requirements, and referral to academic support services.
  • Assist in coordinating Team Travel, which includes securing bus transportation, Hotels, and coordination of team meals.
  • Contributing to and monitoring of team social media content, as well as potential prospective student-athlete recruits
  •  Performs other miscellaneous/administrative duties pertaining to the program as assigned by the Head Coach, including completing athletic compliance CARA (Countable Athletic Related Activity) logs as required by the NCAA.
  • Abide by all NCAA, conference, and university regulations, policies, and procedures. Report any known or suspected NCAA violations to the Associate Director for Compliance, Director of Athletics, or Faculty Athletics Representative. Violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or correction action up to and including termination of employment.
  • Break down video tape for each game and provide a report for the head coach.

  • Coordination and compilation of statistics pertinent to the women’s ice hockey program

  • Weekly phone calls to prospective student-athletes

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience playing at the collegiate level or experience coaching at the collegiate level.
  • Must have the ability to conduct business in a professional manner.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, writing, and leadership skills.
  • Recruiting experience and solid understanding and knowledge of NCAA recruiting regulations.
  • Experience breaking down game tape preferred.
  • Must be committed to assisting with the development of the student-athletes as each strives for excellence on the ice, in the classroom and in the community.

Unusual Working Conditions

  • Periods of extended travel to conduct off-campus evaluations of prospective student-athletes and team travel
