About the Role
Join our team as a Before & After-School Counselor where you will create a safe and engaging environment for students during non-classroom hours. This role involves supervising and guiding students through various activities, assisting with homework, and supporting their social and emotional development. You will be a vital part of ensuring a smooth transition between the school day and after-school activities, providing continuity and consistency in the students' daily routine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of students during both before-school and after-school hours, overseeing activities both indoors and outdoors.
  • Activity Planning: Develop and implement age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and special projects that align with our educational philosophy.
  • Academic Support: Assist students with homework and provide tutoring or academic enrichment activities as needed, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Behavior Management: Encourage positive behavior and implement disciplinary measures when necessary, adhering to the school’s guidelines.
  • Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
  • Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of attendance, incidents, and other required documentation to ensure program accountability.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other counselors, teachers, and staff to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.
  • Program Development: Assist in evaluating and improving program activities to better meet the needs of students and enhance their overall experience.

Skills and Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education, child development, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in a school, camp, or childcare setting is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to manage and engage groups of children, patience, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
  • Background Check: Successful completion of a background check is required.
