Electrical Engineering Co-Op/Intern

POSITION PURPOSE
The Electrical Co-op/Intern will report directly to the Electrical Manager in Aux Services. The electrical engineering Co-op/Intern will provide expertise and assistance to the department in support of company goals. The Co-op/Intern will be required to attend and adhere to all safety training classes, rules and regulations, and be part of the plant safety culture.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in updating existing mechanical and electrical drawings
- Assist in Automation Projects in Aux Services
- Assist in Short Circuit Studies & Arc Flash Analysis
- Assist in Capital Project Management
- Provide basic support as needed
- Assist in Energy Management systems and Utilities
- Assist in Electrical Maintenance troubleshooting and implementing improvements
- Assist in the improvement/selection of field devices
- Assist with preventative maintenance, maintenance, and basic supervision as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies and Experience
Required:
- Minimum GPA required: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD
- Familiarity with electrical drawings: assemblies, details and bill of material
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Word skills
- Prior heavy industrial experience a plus, but is not mandatory
- Excellent safety awareness
- Dedicated and hard worker
- Must be punctual
- Team membership skills/goal oriented
- Any knowledge or experience in the following areas is a plus:
- Electrical Maintenance
- Hydraulic systems and Hydraulic schematics reading
- Electrical 120V - 480V Systems, PLC’s and Electrical Motors.
- Short Circuit and Arc Flash Models using SKM Power Tools.
- Autodesk AutoCAD Mechanical and/or Inventor
Education
Required:
- Completion of at least two (2) years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position operates in both the office and industrial environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment. This role is partially sedentary (average of 4 hours per day).
This position will often require work in the industrial environment with exposure to heat/cold, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, noise and wearing safety equipment/clothing for protection from hazards.
The position requires the following vision and hearing capabilities:

The employee will occasionally be required to:

The employee will be required to sit, stand, and/or walk as follows:
- Sitting 0-8 hours at a time; average 5 hours a day
- Standing 0-8 hours at a time; average 2 hours a day
- Walking 0-8 hours at a time; average 1 hours a day
- Alternate sitting and standing as needed
The employee will be required to use the following machines or tools:
- Desktop computer, database and control software
- Multimeter
The employee will work in the following conditions:
- Indoors
- In extreme heat and extreme cold
- In wet and humid conditions
- Amid fumes, dust, dirt, and smoke
- In confined areas and high places
- Around equipment in motion
- Amid noise
- Amid mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards
- Around industrial magnets
- While wearing safety equipment and/or clothing for protection from hazards
POSITION TYPE – WORK HOURS - TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Position is full time, non-exempt
- Position works eight (8) hour day shift, Monday through Friday – additional overtime as needed to manage breakdowns and other project work
- Travel less than 10% of time (driving or by airplane) in the field or at other SSAB locations
