SSAB Special Steels is looking for a motivated, performance-driven CAD Technician to join our team in the Mobile, Alabama area. We are committed to safety and adding value and are looking for someone eager to grow their career in steel manufacturing.  This position is on site.

About the Position

As a CAD Technician, you will manage and maintain the document management system.  You will update drawings as changes are made, perform 3D modeling and drawing creation, update legacy AutoCAD files, and provide design for new and retrofit equipment.


Main Responsibilities

  • Utilize Engineering and Design Tools:
    • SolidWorks or inventor, AutoCAD, Revit
  • Provide drafting, modeling, and design support to the engineering staff:
    • Produce concept designs and final design drawings for all project disciplines (general assembly, detail, layout, electrical, structural, civil, mechanical, piping, etc.) using accepted drafting standards and practices
    • Modify and revise drawing changes that occur throughout the facility
    • Produce and distribute electronic and paper drawing packages
  • Manage and update the document management system, including:
    • The Drawing Management System (TBD)
    • Assist in the development and implementation of site Drawing Management System.
    • Assist in the establishment and upkeep of Mill Manual System
    • Assign and control drawing numbers, manual numbers, document retention
    • Assist engineering staff with outside contractor document collection and control
  • Directly manage smaller projects
  • Manage portions of larger projects under the guidance of engineering staff
  • Program plate parts for the Shipping Oxy-Fuel/Plasma Burn Beds

 


About You/Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate’s degree in Drafting/Design
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a designer, draftsman, technician utilizing Inventor, Revit and AutoCAD programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office
  • Possess attention to detail and organizational skills

 

 Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration on mechanical and electrical drafting disciplines
  • 5+ years of experience as a designer, draftsman, technician utilizing SolidWorks or Inventor and AutoCAD programs
  • Specific drafting and design work related to the steel industry or other heavy mechanical industries
  • Ability to manage software for CAD and Engineering software
