We’re looking for someone who is willing to provide direct safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) support to Savage’s rail and transloading operations in Saskatoon, Yorkton, and Winnipeg. (For this position, you must be located in one of these locations and willing to travel on a consistent basis to the other locations you support.)

Here’s a preview of what you will be doing
This role’s primary function is to support and mentor Team Members and be a key part of the local leadership team. What that means is that you must be willing to:
- Problem solve.
- Demonstrate stewardship, and professionalism while delivering key results.
- Mentor and coach a workforce in a rail operation and transloading operation.
- Develop and execute site-specific procedures.
- Be a safety LEADER by setting an example – that means following procedures, praising safe behavior, correcting unsafe acts and building a culture of safety within the team.
- Spend up to 40% field time in the operation, observing and working alongside team members as they load/unload, railcars/trailers and perform rail related activities
- Communicate any operational concerns, provide accurate reporting
- Establish a trusting relationship between Savage, the customer and regulators in a way that creates value and provides opportunity to elevate our relationship with them and other terminal customers.
- Provide leadership, training, and coaching to Team Members.
- Facilitate incident investigation, root cause analysis, implementation and closure of corrective actions
This is what we need from you to be successful in this role:
- Have a thorough understanding of Railway Operations and Rail Safety.
- Willing to be reached and able to assist 24/7/365, available to travel, and hold a valid passport.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of Safety, Health, & Environment including inter provincial regulations, TDG, and Rail Safety.
- Be comfortable in front of a group: whether it's training frontline employees or presenting a safety plan of action to a potential customer.
- Excellent written communication skills for writing reports, trainings, proposals and more.
- A desire to work in the field alongside operators, in an industrial environment, be frequently outdoors in all weather conditions, climbing on top of and underneath railcars/trailers, working at heights, walking long distances sometimes on uneven ground.
Here are some of the minimum requirements for this role:
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
- Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or ability to achieve CRSP designation
- Minimum of 2-5 years experience in the rail industry
- Minimum of 2-5 years as a safety professional in a refinery, oil and gas or other industrial environments
- Extensive knowledge of hazardous materials, transloading
