DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS


This person will be responsible for planning and providing direct instruction that meets the criteria of the standards and benchmarks and the core indicators.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Priority -- meet student needs and help to maintain a warm and welcoming environment. Maintain confidentiality. Administer, record, and interpret diagnostic tests. Determine learning needs and skills to assist participants in developing and implementing individual learning plans (ILP). Provide instruction in group and individual settings, including scheduling appropriate learning activities and exercises. Develop and recommend the purchase of resource materials. Document instructional and counseling activities for a measure of accountability. Refer participants to appropriate social service agencies as need is identified. Record each action. Ensure that such records are accurate and current. Complete and submit assigned reports on time and as scheduled. Maintain portfolios and documentation logs. Attend applicable in-services, conferences, and trainings. Promote the ASPIRE  Program within the college and in the community. Facilitate communication among students, instructors, community, and the director. Assist in planning and continuous improvement. Assist with and attend Recognition each year. Work assigned schedule, exhibit regular and predictable attendance and work outside of normal schedule as needed to meet workload demands.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Performs other related duties as required.


EQUIPMENT OPERATED


       Computer; printer; calculator; copier; fax machine; telephone; and other standard office equipment.


CONFIDENTIAL DATA


Maintains confidentiality. Employee and student information covered by FERPA guidelines and agreed to in the FERPA Confidentiality Agreement.


WORKING CONDITIONS


Good classroom working conditions.  The work requires the use of safe work practices with office and class room equipment.


USUAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits for extended periods of time and occasionally stands and walks.  The employee regularly exhibits manual dexterity when working on the computer, typing and performing other related tasks.  The employee regularly talks and hears when working with students and the general public.  Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision, with the ability to adjust focus when typing or reading a computer screen.  The employee occasionally lifts up to 15 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS


An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of an acceptable qualification is: Bachelor’s degree; ASPIRE staff training is required but is provided between hiring and job commencement. ASPIRE experience is preferred.


Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.  


Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.


LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree or higher

Teaching Certificate Preferred
