The Director of Accounting is responsible for managing and leading the accounting operation function of the Bank and its parent company. This role ensures the integrity of the Bank’s fiscal record-keeping system, manages the general ledger, and oversees all accounting processes to produce timely and accurate financial data. The Director of Accounting provides leadership within the department, ensures compliance with Bank policies and regulations, and supports strategic financial planning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversees the general ledger, account reconciliations and month-end close process to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and bank-specific accounting policies.
  2. Assures audit compliance and procedure quality control are maintained for the department and Bank; reviews, recommends and initiates corrective actions; oversees certification and audit activities for all branches and departments; and ensures department is in compliance with established Bank policies, procedures and state and federal regulations.
  3. Assists branch and central department offices and external sources in resolving accounting inquiries and providing staff support; participates in various internal committees assigned by senior management.
  4. Responsible for preparing, reviewing, and filing regulatory reports (e.g. Call Report, FR Y-9, etc.) and internal financial statements. Ensures accurate completion of related financial reports initiated by the Bank’s data processor along with internal reports.
  5. Develops, tests and implements policies and procedures pertaining to the maintenance of accurate accounting records and report preparation.
  6. Gathers and calculates financial information for tax purposes; functions as liaison with external tax return preparer ensuring submission of monthly, quarterly and annual tax reports to the federal and state government; and ensures reporting is made in compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  7. Maintains advanced knowledge and awareness of financial industry status and trends.
  8. Assists in implementing cost controls for the department and monitors expenses to ensure compliance with budget.
  9. Assumes responsibility for special projects; gathers data and prepares reports for Senior Management, audits and other personnel.
  10. Leverages in-depth knowledge of community banking to adapt accounting practices and policies that meet the specific needs of the Bank. Provides insights on local market trends and regulatory changes that impact community banking.
  11. Compliance with any and all BSA/AML/CFT and Sanctions requirements set forth by Bank Policy and Procedure, including but not limited to timely completion of assigned training.

SECONDARY DUTIES

The position performs duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The position is responsible for the supervision of all office employees and is expected to provide leadership, training and support to staff members.
