Used Car Acquisition Salesperson - BMW of El Cajon

Job Summary:

The Used Car Acquisition Salesperson is responsible for sourcing and acquiring high-quality used vehicles for the dealership's inventory. This role involves engaging with potential sellers, assessing vehicle values, negotiating purchase terms, and ensuring that acquired vehicles meet dealership standards. The position also includes maintaining relationships with customers and partners to drive used car inventory growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Identify and engage potential sellers, including individual owners, leasing companies, and fleet operators.
  • Use various channels such as online platforms, auctions, and trade-ins to source used vehicles.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vehicle owners, trade-ins, and external partners to expand the dealership’s network.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of used vehicles to determine their condition, market value, and potential resale value.
  • Use appraisal tools and market data to provide accurate and competitive offers.
  • Inspect vehicles in person to assess their physical and mechanical condition.
  • Negotiate purchase terms and prices with sellers to acquire vehicles at favorable terms for the dealership.
  • Prepare and present purchase offers, ensuring clarity on terms and conditions.
  • Manage the purchase process, including documentation, payment arrangements, and vehicle transfer.
  • Work with the dealership’s inventory management team to ensure that acquired vehicles are processed and prepared for sale.
  • Coordinate with the reconditioning and service departments to ensure vehicles meet dealership standards before being put on the lot.
  • Track and report on acquisition activities, including the number of vehicles acquired, purchase costs, and potential profits.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to sellers, addressing their needs and concerns throughout the acquisition process.
  • Follow up with sellers post-transaction to ensure satisfaction and foster repeat business.
  • Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor to build trust and rapport with potential sellers.
  • Stay informed about market trends, vehicle values, and competitive pricing to make informed acquisition decisions.
  • Analyze sales data and customer feedback to identify opportunities for acquiring high-demand vehicles.
  • Monitor industry developments to adapt acquisition strategies and stay ahead of market changes.
  • Complete and process all required documentation related to vehicle purchases, including contracts and title transfers.
  • Maintain accurate records of acquisition transactions and vehicle details in the dealership’s management system.
  • Prepare reports on acquisition activities, including vehicle sources, costs, and inventory levels.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance.    
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Sales License.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in automotive sales, vehicle appraisal, or a similar role
  • Strong understanding of vehicle appraisal methods, market values, and used car pricing.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of sellers.
  • Proficient in using appraisal tools, CRM systems, and dealership management software.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess vehicle conditions and market trends.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to providing exceptional service and building lasting relationships.

Physical Demands:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Regularly stands, walks, sits; uses hands; reaches with hands and arms; talks and hears; occasionally lifts up to 15 pounds.
