Responsibilities:

Talcott Financial Group's actuarial summer internship program is designed to introduce you to the world of actuarial science. During this ten week summer program, you and your fellow interns will become part of a highly respected actuarial community, undertaking challenging and rewarding assignments while sharpening your technical, communication and leadership skills.

Interns at Talcott Financial Group will be placed in either our Actuarial, Enterprise Risk Management, or Investments departments, focusing on one of our product lines such as: Variable Annuity, Fixed Annuity, or Fixed Indexed Annuity. All interns are exposed to a variety of actuarial functions including pricing, valuation, financial reporting, risk assessment and more.

Interns will be assigned a project at the beginning of the internship with the goal of progressing to subject matter expert in ten short weeks. The end of the internship concludes with a presentation to the Chief Actuary and other members of the Talcott Actuarial Community.

Additionally, the internship program has an extensive calendar that includes team building and social events that allow you to meet and interact with all members of our actuarial community.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Business or similar concentration
  • Demonstrated drive for continuous learning and growth
  • Strong work ethic, including the desire to take pride in and ownership of work products, and the willingness to “do what it takes” to meet critical objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for learning technical software and coding skills, such as Excel, VBA, and R
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Desire to continually improve processes while delivering timely and accurate results
  • Independence and ability to effectively manage priorities

Compensation

The hourly pay range is mainly based on an evaluation of comparable positions in the external market. The actual pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range. The pay range is based on factors including but not limited to experience, competence, the number of actuarial exams successfully completed, and housing needs. The hourly pay range for this role is:

$26.00 to $30.00 per hour
