Are you ready to lead a dynamic team in maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure of an esteemed institution? We're seeking a talented and experienced Facility Director to oversee the operations of our department, encompassing maintenance, custodial, and grounds functions. The right candidate will have a background that is rooted in MEP with hands-on experience turning wrenches and having grown into a leadership role.

As the Facility Director, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, organization, and management of our client, a prominent historically black university in the beautiful Hampton, VA area. You will oversee the maintenance of 73 buildings and 2.6M sq ft on a campus that is 314 acres. You will have a direct team of about 5-6 managers and admin and indirectly about 140+ employees. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact while fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of division managers and administrative staff.
  • Assess and oversee the campus infrastructure, including building maintenance, custodial services, and groundskeeping.
  • Coordinate small project work and forecast long-term capital improvements for the campus.
  • Manage personnel matters such as annual reviews, disciplinary actions, payroll, and attendance.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors for services such as preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain the budget, processing invoices and expenses efficiently.
  • Remain available for after-hours emergencies, ensuring prompt and effective responses.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years' experience as a facilities manager, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Proficiency in building maintenance and facilities management.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Customer service orientation and ability to work flexible hours, including nights, days, and weekends as needed.
