RISK MANAGER

Location: Dubuque Corporate Office

 

Job Description

Theisen’s Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with our retail operations and supply chain. The Risk Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our customers and employees while protecting the financial stability of our organization.

 

Job Duties

  • Risk Mitigation Planning: Develop, implement, and execute comprehensive risk mitigation strategies and action plans to address identified risks effectively. Collaborate with different teams to implement risk control measures and minimize exposure to potential threats. Maintain policies and procedures necessary to promote the risk management strategies.

 

  • Risk Identification: Proactively identify potential risks and vulnerabilities across all aspects of the business, including but not limited to operational hazards and regulatory compliance issues. Monitor and analyze internal data to identify potential risks and areas for improvement.

 

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments to evaluate the likelihood and potential impact of hazards and vulnerabilities on the organization. Utilize risk assessment tools, data analysis, and industry benchmarks to quantify risks and prioritize them based on their severity and urgency.
  • Insurance Management: Engage in and coordinate conversations with insurance carriers. Evaluate property and casualty insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage while minimizing cost. Ensure contractors are properly insured that Theisen’s is indemnified and protected from contractor’s risks.

 

  • Compliance Monitoring: Stay current on regulatory requirements, industry standards, emerging risks, and best practices related to risk management. Monitor compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies, and advise senior management on emerging risks and regulatory developments. Ensure internal policies and procedures are maintained in accordance with current standards.

 

  • Employee Safety Awareness & Training: Heighten and maintain employee awareness regarding workplace hazards and nurture culture of safety in which the occurrence of injury is scarce. Develop, deploy, and maintain safety protocols and training programs aimed at educating employees on a safe work environment where the execution of tasks is free of risk.
  • Risk Communication: Communicate risk-related information, findings, and recommendations to senior management, department heads, and other stakeholders in a clear, concise, and actionable manner. Provide regular updates on risk exposure, mitigation efforts, and risk management initiatives to promote safety and accountability. Collaborate with store managers and department heads to ensure compliance with risk management policies and procedures. Prepare reports and presentations on risk exposure and mitigation efforts.

 

  • Case Management: Investigate incidents and accidents and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence and mitigate cost.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, retail management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in risk management, preferably in a retail or consumer goods environment.
  • Strong knowledge of retail operations, including sales, inventory management, and customer service.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements relevant to the retail industry (e.g., OSHA, PCI-DSS).
  • Certification in risk management (e.g., RIMS-CRMP) is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to multiple locations as needed.

 

Physical Demands 

  • Mobility: The job may require frequent movement within and between retail stores to conduct risk assessments, inspections, and investigations. This could involve standing, walking, climbing stairs, and navigating through store aisles.
  • Lifting: Occasionally, the Retail Risk Manager may need to lift and carry equipment or materials during inspections or when assisting with safety improvements. The weight lifted could range from light to moderate.
  • Visual Acuity: The ability to visually inspect store environments for hazards and risks is essential. This may include reading documents, observing equipment, and identifying safety concerns.
  • Manual Dexterity: Tasks such as operating handheld devices, writing reports, and handling equipment may require good manual dexterity.
  • Communication: Effective communication with store managers, employees, and corporate stakeholders is crucial. This may involve speaking clearly, listening attentively, and using written communication skills.
  • Computer Use: Utilizing computer systems for data analysis, report generation, and communication purposes may be part of the job. This requires proficiency with standard office software and the ability to sit for extended periods.

 

Work Environment and Working Conditions

Overall, while the Retail Risk Manager role primarily involves administrative and analytical tasks, there may be occasional physical demands associated with conducting on-site inspections and interacting with retail and supply-chain environments.

This position will generally be performed inside a climate-controlled office facility where the noise level is low to medium and typical of an office environment.  Potential hazards include electrical hazards.  Atmospheric conditions are typical of an office environment and may include exposure to odors and dust.

Hours of Operation:
   
Corporate Office (Core Hours) - 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Mon-Fri.

 Distribution Center - 6:00 AM - 3:30 PM (1st Shift) and 3:30 PM - 2:00 AM (2nd Shift). 

Store Locations - Vary by location, but can range from 8:00 AM-8:00 PM Mon-Sat and 9:00 AM-6:00 PM Sun.
