Under the direction of the Court Sports Supervisor, Summer Camp Attendants provide safe, high-quality activities and instruction for various groups within the Youth Programs Department, including a wide range of summer camp sports and enrichment subjects. Camp Attendants will participate in planning, preparing, instructing, and leading camps in a variety of sports and/or enrichment subjects while ensuring a fun and safe environment. Attendants/Instructors may be scheduled in a variety of locations including Summer Camps, Court Sports Classes, or the Fit Zone.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Greets parents & children upon arrival.
  • Updates record of children in each space as they arrive.
  • Checks out and updates rosters upon departure.
  • Ensures that children meet health requirements to be admitted to participate.
  • Assists with the separation of parent and child in a manner that reduces anxiety and facilitates the child's transition into programming.
  • Teaches a variety of athletic and enrichment programs to youth, including but not limited to traditional sports like basketball, soccer, and baseball, as well as outdoor activities like football, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, and arts and crafts.
  • Move, set up & sanitize equipment (May need to lift up to 30lbs).
  • Create and implement age & ability appropriate curriculum for various summer camp activities.
  • Thoroughly review and understand the lesson plans provided by the Court Sports Supervisor and the Court Sports Coordinator, ensuring accurate delivery of activities and adherence to program objectives.
  • Quickly establish good rapport with youth and parents.
  • Reinforces positive behaviors and corrects misbehavior through redirection.
  • Respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency situation, following established procedures.
  • Lead by example, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques across all summer camp sports and activities.
  • Provide a safe and clean environment for children adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Assist in the check-in and check-out desk operations, efficiently managing the sign-in/out process for campers, maintaining accurate records, and addressing any inquiries or concerns from parents or guardians.
  • Demonstrate a friendly and helpful demeanor towards children and parents, readily addressing any questions or concerns, providing guidance, and fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the summer camp environment.

Qualifications:

  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.
  • Prior experience working with children and parents, preferably in a recreational or academic environment, with specific experience in leading summer camp sports and activities.
  • Well-developed verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to interact effectively with a variety of people under a variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and members.
  • Demonstrated competence, sound judgment, and self-control when working with infants, young children, and parents.
