THIS IS A FULL-TIME, EXEMPT ROLE

Position Overview:

To support CRO in delivering and enhancing the firm’s Enterprise Risk Management practices. Partners with business leaders and members of the ERM organization to drive continuous risk culture improvement across the company with emphasis on Enterprise Risk Management Exposure Information and Analytics focus.   

 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Manages a team of analysts in support of ERM exposure information and analytic activities 
  • Partnership with ERM ‘Production Analytics’ and ‘Advanced Analytics’ teams on ongoing ERM exposure information activities
  • Development and maintenance of production level quarterly reports for business segments/ functional areas
  • Standardized Ad hoc reporting requests from business segments and functional area partners
  • Promotes risk culture and provides training, input and guidance to business partners and senior leadership on risk analysis results and recommends course of action.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills, coaches, and motivates team to accomplish goals through personal growth and technical learning. 
  • Oversees team's work product and day to day workload.
  • May be accountable for financial/budgetary oversight for applicable group.
  • Responsible for performance and compensation management for team.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • Experience and Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant technical field.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills & capabilities
  • Strong SQL/Programming skill set   
  • Strong aptitude at interpreting data; establishing quantitative approaches to solve business problems and articulating conclusions in a non-technical fashion.
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.
  • Able to direct activities of others, motivate and develop staff.
  • Strong Insurance industry knowledge.
  • Strong executive presence and decision-making ability.

 

Key Competencies:

  • Programming Expertise- Possess strong SQL/Programming skills sufficient to develop, manage and lead process routines for ERM and organizational needs
  • Innovative perspective – Posses the aptitude and interest to develop innovative technology ideas that strengthen Hanover’s risk culture and supports ERM’s multi-year strategic roadmap
  • Risk Management - Identify and assess risks as input to developing risk monitoring; appetites; tolerances as well as mitigation approaches.
  • Industry Knowledge and Strategy - Possess knowledge and understanding of company direction, strategy, operations, and products/services; able to assess risk versus reward associated with business model; product portfolio; processes; legal and regulatory across multiple functions within the organization
  • Financial Acumen - Comprehends financial balance sheet measures; business exposure measures; investment terms; Economic Capital Model function and structure; vendor catastrophe models and rating agency models; can apply knowledge to quantify risk scenarios and evaluate risk appetites and tolerances.
  • Communication - Present formal and informal presentations in various settings; one-on-one, small, and large groups, with peers, direct reports, and bosses; Practice attentive and active listening; Clearly succinctly communicates in writing, key messages to variety of audiences.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration - Participates in and promotes co-operative working relationships across organizations including knowledge sharing and partnership in achieving solutions.
  • People Management - Enable, motivate, direct and continually develops a committed, motivated, and high-performing workforce by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress, ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly
  • Data Reporting and Systems Knowledge - Collect, analyze, and report data from multiple sources for use in making business decisions.  This will involve use of operational and analytical systems within the company, e.g., PMS, Insurity, or OBIEE; commonly used ERM tools, e.g., catastrophe modeling, ESRi, or RiskLink; programming in SQL, Visual Basic, R, or other languages; and appropriate use of desktop software with emphasis varying with risk specialization.
  • Executive Presence - Commands authority and is able to lead discussion and provide direction on approach to others
  • Influence - Drive outcomes or decisions made without necessarily having control or authority over execution
  • Decision Making - Make difficult decisions under pressure, balancing the need to gather detailed information and perform analysis, with the need for timeliness.
