Position Type: This is a Grant Funded Position

Service Area: Troup, Pike, Meriweather

About this opportunity:

The primary point of contact in serving disaster survivors. Responsible for assessing survivors needs. Represents the Salvation Army at disaster recovery meetings conducted throughout the disaster area in order to coordinate available disaster relief services with other social service agencies and disaster relief organizations. Obtains verification of needs and eligibility through case management intake processes and provides referrals for assistance. Prepares statistics of services rendered and a written summary of un-met client needs.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Attends disaster recovery meetings which may require adjustments to daily work schedule and travel outside of assigned area. Travel is expected.
  • Meeting disaster survivors where they are i.e.,home visits, in the community, when needed.
  • Assists individuals and families in accessing available Salvation Army and other community agencies resources such as food, clothing, shelter, building supplies, emotional and spiritual care, etc.
  • Completes standardized forms (paper or by computer) to create a case-record for disaster survivors receiving assistance and appropriately documenting each survivor’s case, including family composition, disaster-caused needs and aid provided.
  • Updates manual and/or computer database client files by recording each contact made with the survivor and maintaining records required for follow-up.
  • Compiles statistical data and other reports as directed by the supervisor.
  • Practices good stewardship of available resources by ensuring only eligible individuals receive disaster aid and accounting for any financial delivery mechanisms, such as vouchers or gift cards.
  • Arranges for disaster survivors to meet with Emotional and Spiritual Care Specialists, as needed.


What we are looking for in you:

  • Two years of college coursework form an accredited college or university in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or a related field; or
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a social or disaster service preferred, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Minimum Insurance Requirement
  • Ability to be complete required training (in progressive order):

1) SALARMY – Introduction to The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services

2) Data Base for disaster case worker

3) SALARMY – Safe from Harm


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 50 lbs.) 5 -10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work may be performed in an environment where there may be exposure to physical health risks and unsanitary conditions. Work involves driving a vehicle to off-site meetings and home visits where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
