Job Summary


Responsible for the food pantry which includes maintaining a consistent state of cleanliness and order in all areas, packing and unpacking items to be stocked on shelves, keeping an accurate count of inventory and investigating any discrepancies; reports to the Director of Social Services and/or acting supervisor on duty.


Essential Functions

Driver Responsibilities: (50%)



Picks up food and other donations from various vendors.



Prepares and delivers food boxes.



Drives carefully and observes/complies with all traffic signs and road/weather conditions to ensure safety.



Parks vehicle in a safe and clearly marked parking space.



Locks vehicle doors when vehicle is not in use.



Fuels vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.



Logs all mileage on standard forms; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.



Arrives at destination according to schedule or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.



Maintains control of vehicle by prohibiting unsafe or non-Christian behavior.



Schedules routine maintenance of The Salvation Army vehicle to ensure safety of passengers and long life of vehicle.



Washes and cleans vehicle regularly.



Food Pantry Responsibilities: (50%)


Receive, count, stock food and hygiene items; determine proper storage methods as to prevent food spoilage, identification, and stock location; mark stock items using identification tags, stamps, electronic marking tools or other labeling equipment as requested.


Responsible for unloading and storing all foods, supplies that are delivered.


Ensures proper handling and storage of food, including monitoring equipment for proper temperature control.


Responsible for the inventory of all foods and supplies in and out of the food pantry.


Maintain a system that accounts for the proper food, in the correct quantities, at the right time is available to the designated clients within designated times.


Examine/inspect stock items for wear or defects; maintain proper records on the use of/ damage to stock or stock handling equipment, reporting any damage to supervisors.


Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses or storage yards.


Maintain a clean and organized area in and around the food pantry, refrigerators, freezers, and the outside area around the loading platform.


Store tools and equipment in and orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms and other areas.


Maintain high cleanliness standards in all areas of the Social Services building including the lobby, halls, activity room, client and staff restrooms and general areas.


Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and regulations.

Ability to maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items can be retrieved in a timely manner.



Ability to plan and coordinate the distribution of food and commodities to the public.



Ability to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.



Ability to maintain an adequate inventory of food and commodities to meet the needs of the program



Ability to sit for extended periods of time.


Ability to meet attendance requirements.


Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.



Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, lifting, and climbing.



Ability to sort and determine the suitability of food and donated items.



Ability to meet attendance requirements

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.



Education and Experience


High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred


or


Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.


Certifications/Licenses


Valid Driver’s license. Clean driving record.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions


Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, lifting, and walking on a frequent change basis.



Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 75 lbs.) frequently.



Work is usually performed in a normal food pantry environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, with the exception of driving conditions.
