The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for an Human Resources Assistant, for the MS Gulf Coast Area Command, located in Biloxi, Mississippi.


Job Summary:  Performs a variety of clerical support work for the Human Resources department including the maintaining of  the filing system of human resources documents; processes electronic and manual new hire/termination requests, background check submission requests and e-verify entries; monitors attendance balances and leave requests; audits and performs data entry and edits in the time keeping system; prepares and tracks health insurance enrollment/termination information; assists and trains employees in proper usage of the implemented human capital management system; performs a variety of clerical support work for the Corps including routine typing and photocopying of reoccurring correspondence, forms, lists, logs, records etc. under close supervision of an immediate supervisor; answers the telephone and provides general information regarding the Corps operations and/or services; processes incoming and outgoing mail. Assists in processing, preparing and depositing kettle monies during the bell ringing season.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions. Ability to maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items can be retrieved in a timely manner. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Ability to maintain the confidential nature of personnel related information. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.  Ability to prepare payroll records and meet established deadlines.

 

Education and Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. required supplemented by additional secretarial courses preferred, and two years of experience performing human resources support work in an office environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver’s License and eligible driver status under TSA Driver Program.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.  Ability to type and keypunch information into a computer.  Ability to operate various general office equipment including a computer, photocopy machine, typewriter, facsimile, calculator. Ability to answer the telephone in a courteous and tactful manner.  Ability to sort and file items alphabetically and numerically.  Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

 

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Additional Information:  Part-time  (19 hours per week)
