Job Title:  Sorting Room Worker and Relief Store Clerk

Location:  Hagerstown Thrift Store     

Position Type:  part-time, non-exempt

Pay Rate:  $15.00/hour    

About this opportunity:

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Sorting Room Worker/Relief Store Clerk at Thrift Store in Hagerstown, Maryland.  Qualified candidates will:

• Receive, inspect, and sort donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition.
• Hang clothes on hangers and place same on clothes racks.
• Select items suitable for store display and distribute same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing, discard items in accordance with established procedures.
• Tag items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.
• Assist customers by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collect monies, count change, and prepare receipts; prepare and package purchased items;
• Assist customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensure that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.

What we are looking for in you:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or G.E.D., and experience working in a retail store preferred; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

None

knowledge of CPR or CPR Certification preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to learn and concentrate.
• Duties are performed seated or intermittently sitting, standing or stooping
• Occasional lifting of light objects (less than 25 lbs) and occasional lifting of objects 25 to 50 pounds may be necessary.
