Tutor- Part-Time

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has opening for a part time Tutor  for the Kentucky - Tennessee Territory, located in Memphis, Tennessee.

Job Summary:

Academic Tutor (Instructor) is responsible for the implementation, instruction and academic assistance for the women and children of the women three programs (Renewal Place, New Direction Pathway of Hope and Single Women’s Lodge) at the Purdue Center of Hope.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the academic needs K-12 grades and GED preparation; knowledge of teaching; knowledge of resources within the School System and Adult Education; knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices; ability to develop plans and goals based on client's needs; ability to evaluate the client's progress; ability to prepare and maintain accurate notes and client; ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education and previous teaching or tutoring experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements; ability to read, write, and communicate the English language; ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; ability to effectively and efficiently work multiple participants at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized; ability to take and pass an annual TB test; limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time; duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.  Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
