Location:  Winston-Salem Area Command – Winston-Salem, NC          

About this opportunity:

Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the accounting and control functions of the Area Command; receives and deposits monies in designated bank accounts; oversees and directs general accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls; produces financial reports and projections on both routine and as requested basis; analyzes and reports operational results to the Area Commander and makes recommendations as needed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manages the financial activities of the Area Command; prepares and oversees the preparation of reports which summarize and forecast the business activity and net financial position in areas of income, expenses, based on past, present, and expected operations for both internal and external sources.
  • Analyzes, and interprets accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
  • Participates in the completion of financial and accounting duties as needed including reconciliations, granting billing, and other duties to ensure the smooth operations of the office.
  • Coordinates, oversees, and helps count kettle money at Christmas.
  • Acts as liaison to other departments, field Officers, Advisory Board members, and outside vendors; builds and maintains relationships with each.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or related field, AND
  • Five years experience responsible performing financial and accounting duties, with prior experience/training in governmental and/or non-profit accounting, and five years supervisory experience,

 

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, but not limited to the office environment.
